The inspiration for the Ibiza Burlesque Festival was hatched, in fact, in 2014 on the dancefloor of Space Ibiza when the festival producers, Sapphira & Tonestepa were on the Island celebrating their honeymoon after being married and separated from Melbourne to Bristol.

The pair reunited in Rome and planned soonafter to honeymoon in Ibiza as Dita Von Teese, the burlesque doyenne, was performing at Space and this had caught their eye. Having seen the glorious production by the team Cafe Ole who were hosting the night ‘Burlesque’ in 2014 during their honeymoon, the idea to launch a festival dedicated to cabaret was cemented however it took a few more years before the vision was realised in 2017 being hosted at Heart Ibiza, Tropicana and Santos in Playa d’en Bossa.

Fastforward to 2022 and a lot has changed since that first idea was hatched on the mainstage at Space Ibiza, including Space closing, which was a very sad moment for many in dance music but it was even more heart-wrenching when Jose Padilla, creator of the Cafe Del Mar compilations passed from colon cancer last year.

For those of you who have followed the history of our festival, the Cafe Del Mar compilations by Jose Padilla were of great significance to festival founder, Sapphira. We are delighted Space Ibiza owner Pepe Roselló revealed that in 2022 the Space Sun Beach will be a musical-themed restaurant and bar located on the sunset strip of Sant Antoni. We are delighted to read in Music Essentials that the seafront restaurant and bar’s musical programming will pay tribute to DJ José Padilla. Of course, the owner Pepe Rosello, an Ibizan dance music industry club owner and veteran, has promised to keep the dancefloor pumping, too. For the most update to date news, visit the club’s Facebook page.
