Isabella Blackat was born in Italy. At the end of 2014 she discovered the art of burlesque, that immediately became a subject of researches and studies. Over the years she has joined many workshops held by internationally renowned artists. She performed at the Salone Margherita, one of the most important Italian theaters. She took part in several national festivals, including the highly prestigious Caput Mundi International Burlesque Award. Beautiful and seductive, with Mediterranean colors. Her style is at the same time sensual, sophisticated, romantic and ironic. Her performances take us back in time, preserving the inevitable erotic charm of Fellini’s women, with sinuous and soft curves. So attractive that she becomes a “sex symbol” between followers: a predominantly female audience, not only virtual, to whom “teaches” love and dedication.
Following this mood she published her book in 2018, ISABELLA BLACKAT, in which she tells in autobiographical form the story of a young Sicilian woman who discovers the world of burlesque as a form of ironic and sensual recognition of her inalienable identity. The spontaneous desire is to convey a message: to face events of life in the name of positivity, between commitment and grace, strength and beauty, in a dualism of joy and rationality.
In 2019 she has broken into the European scene performing in France in the first edition of the Festival Rétro-Tease Lyon and in Scotland in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the greatest platform for creative freedom in the world. During the same year, she won the Burlesque Festival Party held in Cantù. 2020 starts fabulous; she has been on tour since January performing in New York, Vermont, Spain, Italy, UK, France and more. Enchanted by this world, she strongly believes that: “there are different ways to express ourselves, our body seems to be a painter’s palette and the colors used on our skin become clothes sewn on to paint the many masks we can wear.”

Sunday 26 April 2020 – www.worldburlesqueday.comJoin the launch of World Burlesque Day, an international day and celebration of all things burlesque created by our founder – showgirl, author and mental health ambassador, Sapphira.

Owner of the event production company, Sapphira’s Showgirls, who produce our annual Ibiza Burlesque Festival and World Record Events #BurlesqueAPeel, Sapphira is author of the mental health recovery story Burlesque or Bust. World Burlesque Day supports Sapphira’s vision that ‘everybody should try burlesque for their self confidence at last once in a lifetime’ following her own profound self-acceptance since first setting foot on stage in 2004. The epiphany of escapism in this beautiful art-form came after she had been hospitalised with a one-time episode severe bipolar at age 21 and she credits burlesque as the tonic for finding herself again.
The celebration coincides with the commemoration of burlesque legend Gypsy Rose Lee and the anniversary of her sad passing on the same day 50 years ago in 1970 and honours the immense contribution Gypsy made to paving the way for those who have followed in her glittering footsteps.
